How El Paso County drivers are affected by the snowstorm

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -With the snow came slushy, slippery and icy conditions on roads Wednesday that drivers said caused them to back up dramatically.

A truck driver 11 News spoke with said he was driving north from Mexico to make a delivery when he was caught in a snow storm in Monument. He says he has been stuck at the truck stop since last night due to dangerous road conditions.

“I tried to go deliver something to Denver but I can’t because the weather is bad. “It is better to be safe than to have an accident on the road,” said truck driver Leo Caldera.

Early in the morning, semi-trucks were parked on the side of I-25 trying to install chains on their tires. This was due in part to CDOT’s notice of chain laws that went into effect this morning.

11 News also spoke with drivers who braved the weather to get to work, including a handyman who went from house to house to fix appliances and equipment for people in Monument.

“I started in the springs and it got progressively worse… I’m pretty sure I just try to stay as far away from people as possible and give them their space,” said Matt Hughes, Handyman.

According to 11 News meteorologists, conditions are expected to be calm overnight, but it will snow again early in the morning tomorrow.
