City Council to reconsider joint homeless agreement with county

Three of Portland’s city commissioners are backtracking on their effort to end the city-county homeless crisis partnership.

The council was scheduled to discuss an ordinance Thursday that would have ended the city-county intergovernmental agreement.

Commissioners Dan Ryan, Mingus Mapps and René González said in a statement today that they decided to remove that ordinance from the agenda to “allow room for the now city council, mayor and county commissioners to renegotiate the agreement if they wish.”

Commissioners said they still believe “the city of Portland, Multnomah County and Metro can build a better system to address homeless services and pave a better path forward.”
