Coroner identifies woman killed in Shingletown shooting

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Shingletown as Jennifer Anne Sourp-Cain, 64, of Cloverdale, California.

Emergency personnel pronounced Sourp-Cain dead at the scene in the 34000 block of Side Bottom Road, according to a deputy coroner’s investigator. Authorities have notified his next of kin and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the case.

The man accused of killing Sourp-Cain, Joseph Colin Scribner, 46 years oldHe appeared in court on October 30 to be arraigned on felony charges of murder and assault with a firearm, along with the special charge of personal use of a firearm causing serious bodily injury or death. The charges are related to the incident on Oct. 25, 2024, when officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at the same location.

Inside the home, officers found a deceased woman with an apparent gunshot wound, now confirmed to be Sourp-Cain. Scribner supposedly admitted to being at the scene at the time of the shooting.

Scribner’s defense attorney requested a two-week postponement of the accusation, which was granted. Scribner remains in custody at the Shasta County Jail without bond.
