Ohio races to watch on Election Day

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The election season is approaching its final stages.

“Ohioans, like everyone else across the country, are ready for this election season to come to an end,” said Dr. Melissa Miller, 13 Action News political analyst and BGSU political professor.

But before that happens, there is a last-minute push by the candidates to cross the finish line.

“The outcome between incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown and Republican Bernie Moreno could determine partisan control of the U.S. Senate,” Miller said.

Miller said the most expensive Senate race will pique the interest of many in and outside the Buckeye State.

With Moreno looking to ride former President Donald Trump’s coattails to victory and Brown counting on divided voters.

“The unaffiliated have turned out in greatest number among the 2.5 million voters who voted early, followed by Republicans and then Democrats,” Miller said.

But the Senate race won’t be the only thing worrying voters at the polls.

Question 1, whether to take the political map-making process out of the hands of politicians, is also a ballot question.

“Issue 1 is likely to be decided by those who are fervent on both sides,” Miller said.

Recent presidential polls in Ohio show a surprising tightening in the race.

“I think what we’ve seen in the last few days is some momentum from Harris,” Miller said.

But Miller says there is some caution to be taken in a state Trump twice won by eight points.
