Birmingham City Councilman Charged with DUI in Mobile Co.; found in city-owned SUV

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – A Birmingham City Councilman was arrested early Nov. 3 and charged with DUI in the Mobile County town of Creola.

Jonathan Tremayne (JT) Moore was found passed out in a City of Birmingham-owned vehicle on I-65 North at mile marker 20, according to Chief Shane Stringer.

Stringer said police received a call about a possible drunk driver who was going slow and swerving. When they found Moore, he was in his vehicle stopped on the side of the road.

Stringer said officers had to open the door to wake Moore and when they spoke to him they could smell alcohol.

Moore admitted he had been drinking, according to Stringer. There was no one else in the vehicle and there were no reports of injuries.

Moore was taken to Mobile Metro Jail, where he was released on bond.

Moore represents District 4 in Birmingham. He also chairs the Education Committee and the Housing Policy Committee and serves on the Public Improvement and Beautification Committee and the Economic Development and Tourism Committee.

We reached out to Moore for a statement.

Council spokesperson Kimberly Garner told WBRC that Birmingham City Council has no comment at this time.
