What Alabama voters need to know

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – Election Day 2024 is almost here and there are things you should know before you head to the polls on Tuesday.

Polls in Alabama will be open from 7 am to 7 pm on Tuesday, November 5.

What do you need to bring to vote?

To vote in Alabama, you will need to bring and show a valid photo ID.

What are acceptable forms of valid identification?

The state of Alabama offers several options for approved photo ID forms, including the following:

  • Alabama driver’s license (unexpired or expired less than 60 days)
  • Alabama Non-Driver ID (unexpired or expired less than 60 days)
  • Alabama Voter Photo Identification Card
  • State-issued ID (Alabama or any other state)
    • Alabama Department of Corrections Disclosure: Temporary ID (photo required)
    • Penitentiary/Jail System AL Record/Movement Sheet (photo required)
    • Pistol permit (photo required)
  • Federally issued identification
  • American passport
  • Identification of an employee of the federal government, state of Alabama, county, municipality, board or other entity of this state.
  • Identification of a student or employee of a public or private college or university in the State of Alabama (including graduate technical or professional schools)
  • Student or employee identification issued by a state institution of higher education in any other state
  • Military ID
  • Tribal identification

If a voter does not have one of these, they can receive a free Alabama photo voter ID from several places.

There will be a statewide Amendment 1 on all ballots.

What is Alabama Amendment 1?

State Amendment: Alabama Amendment 1 is a YES/NO vote on whether to transfer control of the land to the Franklin County Board of Education.
