Meet a man who lost his father just before he was born, spent his childhood in poverty and cleared the UPSC exam in…

Rajendra Bharud, an IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre, serves as an inspiration to millions who dream of achieving something and work hard for it.

Rajendra Bharud, an IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre, serves as an inspiration to millions who dream of achieving something and work hard for it. Bharud’s journey was not at all difficult.

Born in the Dhule district of Maharashtra, Bharud lost his father just before his birth. The death of his father left the family in a huge financial crisis. His mother sold desi liquor to earn a living. Let’s know more about the inspiring journey of the IAS officer.

Background

Rajendra Bharud, a simple man born and raised in a poor family in Maharashtra, who never knew how to give up. After the unfortunate death of his father, his mother sold liquor to earn bread and butter for her four children.

Because of her business there was often a meeting of the drinkers at his house. When Bharud was growing up, the drinkers would pay him some money to get some work done. He used the money to buy books for himself.

He has revealed in interviews that he was once humiliated by a customer who came to his house to buy drinks. The customer wanted him (Bharud) to get snacks for himself, but Bharud refused and told him that he had wanted to study.

The customer laughed and said, “What will the liquor salesman’s son become”? Hearing this, Bharud and his mother wept. However, his words filled him with the spirit to pursue his dreams.

Driven by dedication and perseverance, Rajendra Bharud secured an impressive 95 percent in the class 10 examinations. He also secured 90 percent in his intermediate class. Interestingly, he also cleared the medical entrance exam and enrolled in Seth GS Medical College in Mumbai to pursue further studies.

He also won the ‘Best Student’ award in his final year of graduation.

Beginning of a new journey

After completing a degree in medicine, Rajendra Bharud decided to prepare for UPSC. The moment came when he passed the exam on his first attempt in 2013, defying all odds and obstacles.

Bharud is currently posted as District Magistrate, Nandurbar.
