Rockville man arrested in Silver Spring shooting, charged with assault and reckless endangerment

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Rockville man was arrested following a shooting Oct. 31 in Silver Spring, where gunshots struck nearby apartment buildings, according to Montgomery County police.

The shooting took place around 4:14 p.m. in the 14100 block of Whispering Pines Court. 4th District officers responded to reports of shots fired and found six shell casings at the scene and two bullet holes in neighboring apartment buildings. No injuries were reported.

Investigators determined the incident began as an argument involving an adult man and woman and a group of individuals. During a search of the area, officers observed a man matching the description of the shooting suspect. The suspect was later identified as Jayson Edwards, 33, of Rockville. Officers also noticed a woman leaving the area in a black Toyota Camry.

The Fourth District Special Assignment Team conducted a traffic stop on the Toyota Camry near New Hampshire Avenue and Cannon Road. Edwards, the front passenger of the vehicle, was found to have an active warrant out of Prince George’s County. He was detained, while the driver was briefly detained and later released.

Police obtained search warrants for the Toyota Camry and the residence associated with Edwards and the female driver. During the search, officers recovered two handguns, one .22 caliber and one privately manufactured 9mm, along with spent bullet casings.

Edwards faces charges of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the shooting incident in Silver Spring. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on both the outstanding Prince George’s County warrant and new charges stemming from this case.
