A teenager was stabbed to death early Sunday during an argument at a Tampa apartment complex, authorities said.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Northgreen at the Carrollwood Apartments, located on Northgreen Avenue in Tampa, after receiving a report of a stabbing.

When they arrived, officers found a 19-year-old man with stab wounds.

Detectives discovered that a verbal argument escalated, resulting in the victim being fatally stabbed.

He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff’s Office officials said they have identified a person of interest.

“What started as a verbal argument unfortunately turned into a tragedy,” said Hillsborough Chad Sheriff Chronister. “Our detectives are fully committed and working tirelessly to gather all the facts in this investigation.”

HCSO believes this is an isolated incident and the public is not in danger.
