In fact, Pyramid Lake, in northeastern Nevada, is highly toxic due to a phenomenon that occurs almost every year.

POT released photos of the black and green body of water last month, along with similar images of Clear Lake in California (from May) and Lake Erie (in August).

Fortunately, it is not as alarming as you might first think and it has been happening for a very long time.

Naturally, one might imagine that it comes from some kind of sewage or chemical spill, but you would be wrong, although it is still toxic.

Aaron Bill, water quality manager for the tribe’s natural resources department, has reiterated that sentiment.

He said: “We always want to make sure people are aware of it, so they don’t bring their animals “or they would restrict them and have their own drinking water.”
