After a grueling seven-hour battle, Fire crews from across Tompkins County contained a large brush fire. that burned between 8 and 10 acres between East Shore Drive and Cayuga Heights Road in Lansing.

The fire, which began Friday night, threatened nearby homes, but was ultimately contained without causing damage to the residences, thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple fire departments.

In response to the dry conditions that fueled the fire, Tompkins County declared a 30-day burn ban and state of emergency Saturday morning.

Ithaca College also canceled a fireworks display planned for family weekend, citing safety concerns amid the increased fire risk.
