Albany man gets life in prison for killing his brother-in-law

An Albany man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years to life in prison for the murder of his brother-in-law.

Ashley Heshmat, 45, fatally stabbed Justin Bishop on Jan. 14, 2024, at the home they shared on Rose Court. The two were roommates.

Bishop was a beloved nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital for eighteen years, but had left the hospital before his death.

Police say Heshmat dumped a car and Bishop’s cellphone at various locations in Albany after the murder.

Heshmat had pleaded guilty in August.
