James Blunt changes his name to Blunty McBluntface as number 1

James Blunt changes his name to Blunty McBluntface as number 1

James Blunt has put himself in a difficult position.

October 11 marked the twenty years since his iconic debut album was released Back to Bedlamled by the hit single ‘You’re Beautiful’. To celebrate, Blunt released a remastered anniversary edition of the album on the 11th, and he would love for it to top the charts in his native Britain. He’s so determined that he’s offered fans quite an incentive if they help make the reissue a No. 1 hit: He’ll legally change his name to whatever they want.

Earlier this month he shared this a comedy video in which he states:

“My name is James Blunt, and you have the power to absolutely fuck my life.

I know you’ve heard the rumors, and they’re true: I’m re-releasing my debut album, Back to Bedlamon October 11. Something that has kept me consistently wealthy for the past twenty years. So as a way to give back to you, my adoring audience, if Back to Bedlam hits number 1 on the charts again, I will legally change my name.

What shall I change it to? Well, that’s entirely up to you. (…) I have been called many things in my life: ‘the most hated man in pop music’, ‘annoying’, ‘James Beige.’ (…) I let the people decide. But if it doesn’t go to number 1, I won’t change my name. It is safe to say that this is the most important democratic moment of the year.”

Later on Radio X The Chris Moyles ShowBlunt confirmed he’s not joking, saying: ‘It’s real. I swear on my life and on the life of my only fan – Brian from Glasgow – that I will change my name if it goes to number 1. I swear on Brian’s life and my life. For whatever the audience wants – and of course the audience will be nice, they wouldn’t go for something that rhymes with Blunt, would they? But you know, as long as that’s not the case, you know, Blunty McBluntface.

Well, Blunt played himself: He recently revealed this that the new name his fans have chosen is indeed Blunty McBluntface. In an appearance on ITV’s Good morning Great BritainBlunt said: “I explained to my wife that she would be Sofia McBluntface and she took the opportunity to say she would change her name back to her maiden name (Wellesley).”

The weekly reveal of the UK charts will take place on Friday, October 18. From the 14th takes place Blunt’s reissue was at number 4and Blunt has continued to be successful in Britain, with his latest album released last year Who we used to bepeaking at number 5. So there’s a chance Blunty McBluntface will appear soon.
