Fifth District candidates make final push before Election Day

(WFSB) – As Election Day approaches, candidates in Connecticut are ramping up their campaigns in the final weekend before the polls.

With national attention focused on the race for the White House, Connecticut candidates are preparing for what could be a crucial election.

In the 5th Congressional District, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes and her opponent, George Logan, are making the most of their time with voters.

“We are in the final stretch and I hope to finish strong,” said Logan, Republican candidate for the 5th district.

Hayes echoed the sentiment, stating, “The enthusiasm is palpable. “People are excited to take this to the finish line.”

On Saturday, both candidates toured several cities and spoke with their supporters to solidify their positions.

Logan emphasized the importance of voter turnout: “This is our chance to make a change. “Every vote counts.”

Hayes responded by emphasizing the clear contrast between the candidates and the meaning of each vote: “We have a choice and every vote matters. “Everyone’s voice is important.”

Although he has leaned Democratic since 2006, Logan came remarkably close to flipping the seat in 2022, losing to Hayes by just about 2,000 votes.

As Election Day approaches, many voters have already made their decisions.

Gina D’Angelo of Plainville shared her experience with early voting: “It was incredibly easy. I only waited less than 10 minutes and I was able to cast my vote.”

D’Angelo appreciated the opportunity to vote on a weekend morning, as her teaching schedule makes weekdays a challenge.

According to the Secretary of State, more than 600,000 of Connecticut’s 2.3 million registered voters have already cast their ballots.

Early voting concludes Sunday night and voters can find their early voting locations by checking their city’s website or visiting mivoto.ct.gov.

As the candidates continue their final push, both Hayes and Logan have a clear message: “Just vote. Get out and vote,” Hayes urged, and Logan added, “Get out and vote. “Let’s do this.”
