City of Calgary hosts pitch for crosswalk honoring veterans

A local organization wants to create a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of Canadians in the war.

Homes for Heroes and the Forest Lawn Community Association are considering painting a crosswalk to honor veterans.

It would be on 36 St. SE near Veterans Village.

Gar Gar, president of the community association, cites other cities that have created year-round reminders of the importance of veterans.

“It means a lot,” Gar Gar said, “because in many cases, the veterans’ voices are not heard. And this is basically the opportunity to say that your voice has been heard and that your voices matter and we hope to have this.”

Gar says they approached the city with the idea and received a positive response within a day or two.
