Celtics star Jaylen Brown didn’t like that and immediately confronted Williams.

After the game, Brown invoked Football Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis in a postgame interview when asked if he thought Williams had intentionally fouled Tatum.

“Like, what are we talking about? Do you see the same play that I was seeing?” Brown said, according to ESPN News Services. “He hit it like it was a football play. Like Ray Lewis crossed the middle or something. It is what it is. Grant knows better than that.”

Brown also added: “Actions speak loudly. It is what it is. We got the win, we moved on. But there’s no place in the game for that. I thought JT and Grant were friends… I guess not.”

Williams spoke to NBC Sports Boston’s Kayla Burton after the game and said he wasn’t trying to hurt Tatum. He admitted it was a “hard foul” but said it was unintentional and that Tatum is one of his “closest friends” in the league.

Regarding Brown, Williams said: “JB kind of escalated things, but I understand he’s trying to protect his teammate. But that’s (Tatum) my dog. It doesn’t matter what he has his back… There is no malice or any problem with that.”

Tatum did not speak to reporters after the game, according to ESPN.

However, as Brown noted, the Celtics got the win and will move on. Tatum scored 32, Brown added 25 and the defending NBA champions moved to 5-1. Next up is a road date with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.
