A female pipe band that has been performing for almost 100 years says it is disbanding because it is having difficulty recruiting younger members.

According to the Dagenham Girl Pipers, girls no longer want to play the bagpipes; their last performance will be on Remembrance Sunday.

Denise Morrison, who joined the east London gang when she was nine, said girls “are more interested in social media these days than in the discipline of a gang”.

They shared their stories with BBC London while rehearsing for the last time at Valence House Museum in Barking.
