A 13-year-old girl has been stabbed and six teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Humberside Police said she was found on the side of the A63 motorway in Hessle at around 0700 GMT.

He suffered “lacerations” to his neck, chest and abdomen and his injuries were “life-threatening,” police said.

Four boys aged 14, 15, 16 and 17 and two girls aged 14 and 15 were arrested shortly afterwards in a nearby wooded area.

Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers said he believed the attackers knew the victim, who is in a critical condition in hospital.

“I understand that this incident will cause concern among the community and I would like to offer my assurances that, as part of our initial investigation, we have six people in custody who are being questioned by detectives,” he said.

“At this time we believe the attackers knew the victim and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.”

Detective Superintendent Vickers thanked those who helped the seriously injured teenager on the side of the road before emergency services arrived.

The searches were carried out in an area near the Hull Humber View Hotel in North Ferriby, near Hessle.

The force has appealed to anyone with information, particularly those with dash cams or CCTV footage, to contact police.

A cordon has been placed around the wooded area of ​​Ferriby High Road.

As night fell in North Ferriby, around 12 police officers continued to search land near the A63 until around 18:00 GMT. It is an area crossed by busy roads, where there are forested areas.

The search took place in a field between the train track and the highway, but extended to the surrounding forest.

Officers entered and exited a nearby hotel – the Hull Humber View Hotel appeared to be a temporary base for those involved in the investigation, which has been active since reports of the stabbing emerged almost 12 hours ago.
