The Kansas City Chiefs’ interior offensive line has earned respect around the league for its efficiency and dominance in the trenches. Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey praised another member of the unit, right guard Trey Smith, during Thursday’s press conference.

“He (Trey Smith) is probably the most physical lineman in the league. He loves to chase guys, put them on the ground, get after it,” Humphrey said. “So the physicality that he brings, and also the mental preparation that he does during the week to be able to see things before they happen, before and after the catch, what’s happening, all those things, he does a great job with that. . He understands the schemes and concepts well and what we are trying to do against what the defense has given us.”

Smith is still one of the highest-rated guards in the league, but he has yet to make the Pro Bowl team. He brings a unique energy to the offensive line unit, leaving a physical impression on opponents and inspiring his teammates.

“Yes, it excites us and makes everyone else play with much more advantage. When you see it on film, you see your guy doing that. “It’s something contagious.” Humphrey said. “It makes you want to do it too and it becomes a kind of competition so you can do your best on the field. Trey (Smith) usually wins, but it becomes a competition and he just does a great job; “He brings a lot of energy to the room and gets the kids excited, so it’s a lot of fun to play with him.”

The 2021 sixth-round draft pick has plenty of footage of lifting defenders while blocking, which has increased his popularity around the league.
