Rubén Amorim hopes his future will be clarified soon as he remains linked to the vacant head coach position at manchester united.

The Sporting boss suggested a decision would be made after Friday night’s Primeira Liga match against Estrela.

“It’s a negotiation between two clubs, it’s never easy,” the 39-year-old said in the pre-match press conference when asked about his move to Old Trafford. “Even with the clauses, it is never easy, they have to talk and we will have a clarification after the game, it will be very clear.

“So it’s one more day after tomorrow’s game and we will make a decision.

“The soap opera is coming to an end. The fact that it can’t be so clear creates a lot of difficulties for me.”

Amorim talks about his future

Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy remains in charge of Manchester United on an interim basis and dodged questions about Amorim, concentrating on his own role ahead of Sunday’s home game against Chelsea.

“I said it was going to be a short interim job,” van Nistelrooy said. “That was communicated very clearly and I’m happy with that. I felt like I was called to help the club move forward in this situation.”

“I’m just thinking about preparing the team for each game. That’s the process I’m in. I’m in this position for the short term, so I’m only thinking about one thing: doing the best we can in every upcoming game.

“Now there is a big game against Chelsea.”

Sporting’s statement

Earlier in the week, Sporting informed the Portuguese Securities Market Commission of Manchester United’s interest.

In a statement, they said: “Manchester United FC expressed its interest in hiring coach Rúben Amorim, and the Board of Directors of Sporting SAD referred to the terms and conditions provided for in the current employment contract between the Company and the coach, specifically for the respective termination clause and for the amount of 10,000,000.00 euros.

“Manchester United FC expressed its interest in paying Sporting SAD the amount of said clause.”
