A man sentenced to life in prison for the 1993 Charlotte rape has been released on parole

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWSA man sentenced to life in prison for the rape of a Charlotte student will be released on Nov. 4, according to the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.

In November 1993, Bruce Allan Clements, now 62, was sentenced to life in prison for the following:

The Greensboro News & Record reportsClements pleaded guilty to assaulting a University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC-Charlotte) student who was jogging on campus. The incident occurred on May 15, 1993, graduation day. Clements, then 31, allegedly wrapped a heavy electrical cord around the student’s neck, drove her into the woods with drugs and raped her.

Prior to this incident, Clements was convicted in 1988 of strangling a woman in Charlottesville, Virginia. wrote the newspaper. In January 1993, he was on parole when he allegedly stalked a female jogger at Clemson University.

According to prison recordsClements was transferred to Johnston Correctional Institution in May 2024, where he is awaiting release. He is charged with 38 offenses behind bars; However, Clements has kept his record clean since late 2010.

Clements is one of many people sentenced to life in prison before October 1994 who now have the opportunity to apply for parole as a result of changes in sentencing guidelines.
