Vernon Kay speaks about his wife and daughters ‘screaming’ over behavior at home | Celebrity News | Showbiz and TV

BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay has told listeners he is treated like “a king” by his wife Tess Daly and their daughters when he is not feeling well, but is often “shouted at” because he does not give the same caring response.

During Tuesday’s show, the 50-year-old broadcaster cheerfully explained to co-host Richie Anderson that he was nearing the end of an illness that had dragged on for weeks.

When asked whether or not he had received sympathy at home, he replied: “I have to say that when I’m bad, they treat me like a king, my girls, they really do.”

Vernon then chuckled about how this concern is sometimes one-sided, adding, “Sometimes I get scolded for not being reciprocated, I think that’s the right word.

“You know, I apologize regularly, so yes, please, they really take care of me.”

Vernon has regularly given listeners insights into his family life since joining BBC Radio 2 last year.

During a recent episode, Vernon was praised as ‘a lucky man’ by his BBC co-star Zoe Ball as he talked about how he gets up in the morning.

He joked: “I make Tess Daly from Strictly Come Dancing turn around and say, ‘It’s time to get up’, with an elbow movement, ‘Come on, get up’.”

Zoe replied: “Oh, you’re in luck! Living the dream, Vernon Kay, honestly.”

Vernon and Tess, who exchanged vows in Horwich in 2003, celebrated 20 years of marriage last year.

When asked about the secret behind their long-term relationship, the Strictly presenter revealed life with Vernon was still full of excitement.

She gushed in an Instagram Q&A: “We still sit down for dinner and have so much to talk about, we still really laugh. I see when his name pops up on his phone I say ‘yay’.”

Tess added: “We have a good laugh, he’s always messing around, dancing and singing in the kitchen. (There’s) never a dull moment.”
