Dan Quinn confirms Jonathan Allen will be out for the season with the torn pec

Command defensive lineman Jonathan Allen is indeed out for the remainder of 2024.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn confirmed at his Monday press conference that Allen suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens.

“Jon has a sternal tear and it’s a big blow for us,” Quinn said. “Jon Allen has been a key player here, to be honest – his style of play, the attitude. We are really disappointed with him as a man and ball player. We will certainly miss him this season and he will probably require surgery in the coming days.”

The 29-year-old Allen was on the field for 62 percent of the Commanders’ defensive plays this season. He recorded 15 total tackles with 2.0 sacks, two tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.

Quinn said there won’t be one player to replace Allen and his production in the lineup.

“It will definitely be a lot of people in roles and the way we use guys to do that because Jon is rare. He has unique skills and talent,” said Quinn. “It’s not just plug-and-play. The good news is that we have a big, deep team and we’re going to use them all a little differently to find ways that we can do that. But we will certainly miss Jon, the strength and attitude he brings.”

Allen, the No. 17 overall pick of the 2017 draft, has totaled 41.0 sacks in his 107 career games for Washington. A two-time Pro Bowler, he recorded 5.5 sacks with 10 tackles for loss and 19 QB hits last season.
