How to upgrade equipment in Dragon Age The Veilguard

You can upgrade the equipment visiting the Janitor’s Workshop beneath the statue of Fen’Harel in the lighthouse courtyard in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. If you exit the main lighthouse into the courtyard, the statue will be directly in front of you with a book in front of it; walk towards it and the caretaker will appear behind the book.

Gear upgrade is locked at your Caretaker level – Therefore, you may not be able to upgrade the part you want if it is not at the required level.

Because of this, we highly recommend raising Caretaker’s Workshop to rank two the first time you want to use it; otherwise your initial range is quite limited. You can improve the Workshop rank by interacting with the Caretaker and selecting the “Rank Up” option on the right side of the menu that appears.

If you have the correct amount of Souvenirs to spend (these are found throughout Thedas), you can use the indicated message to improve the Workshop rank. You can continue to improve their rank as much as you want, as long as you have the right amount of Memories.

Now, to upgrade the equipment, talk to the caretaker in his workshop to open the main menu, then select the “Upgrade” option. This will take you to another menu where you can select items from Rook’s or your partner’s collections, depending on which items you want to upgrade.

For Rook you can upgrade most of their equipment, minus the rings and amulets you’ve collected for them. If you want to upgrade the rarity of an item, you need to find its duplicate in order to do so. However, we discovered that unique items cannot be updated.

For your companions, you can upgrade their two-handed weapons and armor; It’s significantly less than what you can do with Rook, but it’s still worth taking the time to make them stronger for the challenges ahead.

Now, to upgrade a piece of equipment (either for Rook or a companion), select it from the upgrade menu. Two boxes will then appear: one in the middle of the screen that will show you the current stats for that piece, how much the stats will increase with an upgrade, and then how many materials it will cost to apply this upgrade.

A smaller box will then appear on the right side of the screen, showing you a description of the chosen item and listing the statistics of what it will become after you’ve applied the upgrade.

If you have the right materials, simply use the command given to “Level Up” your equipment (which is literally how the game says to upgrade).

Now that you’ve done that, you can continue upgrading as many pieces as you want! Fair remember that your upgrades are locked at the caretaker levelSo if you can’t do what you want, it’s likely that you haven’t reached the required level yet.

You can also upgrade some items by purchasing their duplicates from a merchant.
