Germany demands assurance from Israel that it will not use weapons against civilians – POLITICO

“Arms deliveries to Israel are about compliance with the rules of international humanitarian law,” said the person familiar with the matter. “The reason for asking for such a commitment is that a German administrative court could otherwise put an end to it.”

According to the German War Weapons Control Act, the government must ensure that supplied weapons are not used to strike civilian targets; A number of lawsuits have already been filed against Germany to stop arms exports.

“This danger is justified and must be addressed,” the person said.

The German government insists there is no genocide taking place in Gaza. With the coastal strip in ruins, Gaza’s Hamas-controlled Health Ministry said on Monday that the death toll had reached 42,289.

Despite the German government claiming there was no arms embargo on Israel, approvals for arms sales fell apart this year.

From January to August 21, Germany approved only 14.5 million euros in arms exports; only 2 percent of these were “weapons of war,” while 98 percent were “other military equipment” such as helmets, protective vests and communications equipment.
