All details of Derby commemorative event confirmed

Plans for annual Derby Remembrance commemorations have been confirmed.

At the event, on November 10, troops from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers will parade through the city center to Market Place.

A short service, led by the Reverend Dr Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby, is scheduled for 11:00 GMT, followed by a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths at the war memorial.

There will be dedicated areas for public viewing in Market Place, along with a large screen, and the ceremony will also be available on the council’s YouTube channel.

Members of local veterans and youth organizations will also participate.

The event will begin with a performance by Surtal Arts Community Choir, a South Asian arts organization based in Derby in Market Place at around 10:15.

Council leader Nadine Peatfield said: “Remembrance is an incredibly important event in the civic calendar and I am very proud that partners from across the city are working together once again to organize events in the city center both Remembrance Sunday as Armistice Day.

A series of road closures will be in place from 8am to 1pm, and the town hall car park will be closed to the public from Saturday night.
