More flights were canceled or diverted to Spanish airports on Sunday as NATs, the air traffic control contractor, confirmed systems had been affected by the weather.

Easyjet flights to Manchester and Bristol were initially diverted to Malaga and then canceled altogether, while the BA flight to Heathrow was diverted to Seville.

Yesterday afternoon’s BA flight was also diverted.

By the time the Sunday evening flights were due to depart, normal service had resumed.

A spokesperson for NATs said:

“Our air traffic control service to Gibraltar was disrupted yesterday (Saturday 12 October) due to a technical fault caused by bad weather. The airport will be closed until 12:00 local time today (Sunday) so that a multi-agency team can work to restore service.

A later statement read:

“Our air traffic control service in Gibraltar continues to be disrupted due to the ongoing technical disruption caused by the bad weather. The airport is closed as a multi-agency team works to restore service.”

Late on Sunday evening, the Ministry of Defense told GBC that a number of personnel from RAF Gibraltar, Aquila and MITIE worked tirelessly for 30 hours at Rock Gun in the adverse weather conditions which caused a technical problem that affected several inbound and outbound flights. to and from Gibraltar.

A spokesperson said safety is the top priority and the decision to divert or delay arrivals/departures from Gibraltar Airport was not one taken lightly.

They apologized to travelers for the disruption.
