Belpre City Council approves readings | News, sports, jobs

BELPRE – The Belpre City Council approved several ordinances and resolutions at its regular meeting Monday night.

The Council approved the second and third readings of an update to its licensed labor ordinance.

The Council approved three readings of a pair of resolutions authorizing temporary appropriations for calendar year 2025 and supplemental appropriations for calendar year 2024.

The Council approved all three readings of a resolution authorizing repair work on Route 7 signs. The work will be performed by the Ohio Department of Transportation on the elevated signs at the north end of Belpre, but approval was needed from the city.

The council also approved all three readings of a resolution approving a moratorium on salaries for all elected officials by 2025. Mayor Susan Abdella had previously requested the action to help offset rate increases approved by the council and because the city is bound by union contracts. for staff salaries. The council has the ability to freeze elected officials’ salaries to help maintain expenses, he said.

In his mayoral report, Abdella said he attended ODOT Ohio’s Local Public Agency Day in Athens, where roads and various projects were discussed. This included timelines, opportunities, and available resources.

He also attended the Ohio County Public Works Commission meeting, where the city’s paving project received enough points to advance to the next round of selection.

Abdella said the first shipment of trees from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources grant has arrived. A planting day will be scheduled and volunteers will be needed, he said.

“We are very excited to have chosen some accessible/inclusive elements for the park through a partnership with the Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities.” he said, referring to another project.
