Top jockey James McDonald has revealed he was moved by the response his record-breaking feat at Flemington attracted from two of his young fans.

McDonald had the crowd buzzing last Saturday when he rode his 11th winner of the week in the final event of the card, breaking his previous record of 10 Cup Week wins, and he had two young gentlemen in the crowd riding Pisanello home with him.

“It was very special; the whole week was special,” McDonald said.

“Those guys, I take my hat off to their parents because they were there for four days, from the first race without fail to the last race without fail, from start to finish.

“It was incredible, they are very passionate people about racing, it was very moving, that’s for sure.”

McDonald will be in action in Melbourne this weekend, as he attempts to win his third consecutive Group 1 Thousand Guineas aboard Aeliana, before flying to Hong Kong to begin a five-week stint there on Sunday.
