On November 9, 2024, at 4:38 pm, Detroit Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East 7 Mile Road and Mound Road for a reported vehicle accident.

The remaining victims were transported to a Detroit Metropolitan Hospital for treatment.

Jatta was allegedly intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed westbound on East 7 Mile Road when he crashed the victims’ vehicle, fatally injuring the 7-year-old victim, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Jatta has been charged with one count of operating while intoxicated, causing death, and three counts of operating while intoxicated, causing serious injury.

The 30-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday afternoon, November 12, 2024, in the 36th District Court and held on a $500,000 cash surety bond.

A bail redetermination hearing is scheduled for November 14, 2024 at 9 a.m.

The probable cause conference is scheduled for November 25, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary examination is scheduled for December 2, 2024 at 8:45 a.m.
