A NSW Police spokesman said the chase was called off a short time later, but the PolAir helicopter continued following the car.

At around 11.15am, the SUV, which had been seen speeding through a red light on Camden Valley Way, turned onto Denham Court Road, where it collided with a ute outside the Lockies Hotel.

The van collapsed on impact and the driver was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the ute was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

“Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command have established a crime scene while specialist officers attached to the Metropolitan Accident Investigation Unit investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident,” a police statement said.
