Beaverton man accused of sexual assault attacked homeless women, deputies say

A 68-year-old man faces felony charges after he allegedly lured a homeless woman to his Beaverton home with an offer of help, but then sexually assaulted her, deputies say.

Washington County sheriff’s deputies say Ronald G. Burchett attacked the woman, identified only by her initials in court documents, and committed first-degree sexual abuse on Sept. 29.

Detectives say another woman came forward and alleged she was sexually assaulted by Burchett in October. Their allegations are not reflected in the indictment approved by a Washington County grand jury.

Officers arrested Burchett last week; he remains in custody at the Hillsboro jail, records show.

“Investigators strongly suspect that there are other women who have been victims,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Burchett was sentenced to one year and nine months in state prison in 2022 for threatening a woman with whom he was in a domestic relationship, court records show. The strangulation charge was dropped as part of the plea deal that resolved the case.

The agreement also resolved a separate 2022 case in Washington County, where Burchett threatened another woman with a knife as part of a racially motivated bias crime, the legal term for a hate crime.
