POTTSVILLE – The city council voted to hire another police officer on Monday.

Owen Charles Webber, 21, of Ringtown, was hired as a full-time officer for the police department pending completion of necessary requirements, such as a psychological evaluation.

Webber is scheduled to start his new job on Monday.

Chief John R. Morrow said Webber was previously a part-time officer at Saint Clair.

On Monday they were named directors of several city departments.

Mayor Mark Atkinson is now public affairs director. Council member William Messaros is director of public affairs and finance, previously held by Atkinson.

Council member Andy Wollyung is in charge of public safety and Dottie Botto will oversee streets and public improvements.

The director of parks and public goods remains vacant.

The council has until Dec. 7 to fill the seat left vacant when Atkinson resigned to become mayor after former Mayor Dave Clews resigned for health reasons in mid-October.
