According to Janie McCauley of The Associated Press (via NBC Sports), The Warriors organization is set to present Thompson with a tribute video upon his return to the Bay and will have his fans don captain caps in tribute to his affinity for the boat life:

“The Warriors are planning a special ‘Salute to Captain Klay’ ceremony before kickoff to honor Thompson’s contributions to the franchise over 11 years,” McCauley wrote. “The team said, ‘Fans are encouraged to arrive early, by land or sea, for a special pregame greeting to the franchise legend.’”

“He (Thompson) hugged Dub Nation and Dub Nation hugged him back. “Warriors fans have laughed, cried, applauded and celebrated alongside him, and it is only fitting that they have the opportunity to show him their love and greet him on his return to the Bay Area.”

Thompson’s legacy in Golden State is immeasurable. The California native helped lead the Warriors to four NBA championships between 2015 and 2022. In his 13-year career with the Dubs, 11 of which he played, the 6-5 guard was a five-time All-Star, Two-time All-NBA Third Team honoree and former member of the All-Defensive Second Team.

Thompson’s incredible shooting and scoring etched him into franchise history.

Furthermore, the 34-year-old is ranked No. 2 only behind warriors superstar Stephen Curry in franchise three-pointers made (2,481 at 3 p.m.) and No. 6 all-time in scoring for Golden State with 15,531 career points. That was fueled by the nuclear eruptions of the incomparable shooter, as remembered in part for his 60-point performance in just 29 minutes on 11 otherworldly dribbles on December 5, 2016.

Thompson and Curry revolutionized the game of basketball and brought the three-point shot to the forefront of the league. For all of his groundbreaking efforts while wearing a Warriors uniform, the franchise will appropriately honor him with a commemorative video that is sure to showcase his torrid shooting and a unified fan base to honor his off-court personality.

Thompson’s Mavericks will take on Golden State at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Tuesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm Pacific time.
