‘Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail’ Statue Auction Raises $324,500 for OHSU Doernbecher Hospital

“Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail” the installation of 31 cat sculptures Inspired by Laika’s first animated film, “Coraline,” it motivated fans of the film and feline lovers to take photos and share posts on social media. Cats and their locations in Portland.until the Cat farewell weekend, October 12-13.

The installation was part of celebrations surrounding the 15th anniversary of “Coraline,” which first premiered in 2009. The cat statues were decorated by local artists and displayed in locations primarily in the downtown Portland area from July 2. August to October 13.

After “Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail” ended, the statues were auctioned to raise funds for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. According to a press release from the Portland Metropolitan Chamber/Downtown Portland Clean & Safe, the auction raised $324,500.

The release also says that based on preliminary economic data, it is estimated that more than 135,000 people have visited the “Coraline Curious Cat Trail,” with a “$4 million economic impact to the downtown.”

The farewell weekend of Oct. 12 and 13 drew 10,000 visitors to Director Park, according to the release.

The statement also includes a statement from David Burke, Laika’s director of operations and marketing. “Our collaboration with the Visit Downtown campaign and Wild in Art to celebrate Coraline’s 15th anniversary highlighted Portland’s vibrant creativity and inspired thousands of visitors,” Burke said. “We are incredibly proud to have been part of such an impactful initiative.”
