Tyler Couture, 32, was indicted by a Somerset County grand jury on Oct. 10 on one count of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and three counts of tampering with a witness or informant, according to court records released to the media. communication on Friday for Somerset. County District Attorney’s Office. They are all Class C counts.

The new indictment is in addition to a Class A count of robbery and a Class B count of aggravated assault, for which Couture was charged in July 2023, according to court records filed in Skowhegan.

Couture was arrested in February 2023 following a month-long investigation by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office into an alleged break-in and assault at a residence on Main Street in Bingham on the evening of May 29, 2022. Two other Bingham residents, Christopher Corwin and Margaret Corwin, were also charged in connection with the incident.

During the armed robbery, Couture assaulted one of the residents with a firearm, according to the indictment and an 18-page probable cause affidavit filed by Deputy Michael Lyman of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. The man who was attacked had several teeth knocked out and suffered other minor injuries.

During a physical struggle, a shot was fired but no one was injured, according to investigators.

According to the new indictment handed down last month, Couture is alleged to have caused, or attempted to cause, a witness or informant in the case to “withhold information or testimonial evidence” on February 12, 15 and 16, 2023 in Madison.

The person named in the indictment is identified as Couture’s mother in a probable cause affidavit for a separate arrest of Couture in Moscow on Aug. 17, written by Deputy Jack LePage of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. Couture was then arrested on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence, assault, domestic violence, criminal threatening, domestic violence, terrorizing and violation of conditions of release.

The Morning Sentinel does not identify alleged victims of domestic violence without their consent.

No information about Couture’s defense attorney was available Tuesday. The lawyer Couture had hired, Roger F. Brunelle Jr., of a Portland law firm, withdrew as an attorney in October, citing Couture’s failure to meet “financial obligations” and a break in business as reasons in a court filing. communication. Court records do not indicate whether Couture has since hired another attorney or whether one has been appointed to him.

On charges of robbery and aggravated assault, Couture was released from jail on bond and given a $175,000 lien on his property on Mayfield Road in Moscow, court records show. After his arrest in August, Couture posted $1,000 cash bail.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is sufficient evidence for a case to proceed to trial.
