NFL Rookie Quarterback Power Ratings: Week 10 Overview

Another week down and another loss for the No. 1 overall pick in a head-to-head matchup with one of his draft rivals.

Caleb Williams fell to 0-2 against other QBs in the class of 2024 as the Chicago Bears lost their third straight game to Drake Maye and the New England Patriots, 19-3 victory at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Maye was once again ultra-efficient. Bo Nix was great, but he learned that if you’re coming for the king (or the Boss) you better not fail, and Jayden Daniels had his worst game as a pro, and Washington lost at home to Pittsburgh.

Here are the latest power ratings for NFL rookie quarterbacks through Week 10:

Rookie QB Power Rating

(Parentheses indicate last week’s grade)

  1. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders (1)
  2. Drake Maye, New England Patriots (4)
  3. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos (4)
  4. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears (3)
  5. Michael Penix Jr, Atlanta Falcons (5)
  6. Spencer Rattler, New Orleans Saints (6)

Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Week 10 stats: 17 of 34 (50.0%) for 202 yards 0 TD 0 INT, 3 carries for 5 yards

Statistics for 10 weeks: 180 for 262 (68.7%) for 1,938 yards 9 TD 2 INT, 85 carries for 464 yards 4 TD

Why is it number 1?

Daniels had his worst game as an NFL quarterback, but he has created enough cushion to stay atop the rookie power rankings.

Daniels’ completion percentage fell below 70 percent for the first time since Week 1, but he still put Washington in position to win despite its 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Commanders led by 10 points in the second half and were up 27-21 in the fourth quarter, however, Daniels only scored three points in the final 27:55 minutes of Sunday.

It’s probably just a bye week for the No. 2 overall pick, whose team fell a half-game behind the Philadelphia Eagles after Washington’s loss and Philadelphia’s 34-6 rout of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. But Daniels and the Commanders have a short week as they head to Philadelphia for a date with those Eagles on Thursday night.

If Daniels struggles, which seems possible considering the Eagles’ resurgent defense, we could start hearing rumors of a rookie wall, even though he remains the heavy favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year in all competitions. . Best Pennsylvania Betting Houses.

Drake Maye, New England Patriots

Week 10 stats: 15 of 25 (60%) for 184 yards 1 TD 1 INT, 4 carries for 24 yards

Statistics for 10 weeks: 97 of 150 (64.7%) for 954 yards 7 TDs 5 INTs, 35 carries for 233 yards 1 TD

Why is it number 2?

Maye was efficient again, outscoring Williams in New England’s second win in the last three weeks. It was Maye’s first start-finish victory, although the Pats’ defense deserves much of the credit.

Still, Maye was once again prepared and didn’t try to do too much, while also protecting the ball outside of her first quarter INT. Maye had an easy two-yard touchdown throw to Ja’Lynn Polk for the game’s only touchdown in a highly anticipated spectacle between rookie quarterbacks who failed to live up to the billing.

Maye made plays with his arms and legs, especially on third down, where the Patriots went 5 for 14. Maye also had a key four-yard scramble on third-and-5 that led to the Pats’ only fourth-down conversion and ultimately to victory. The first points of the game with a field goal by Joey Slye in the first quarter.

The Patriots are much less skilled than many other teams, including the Bears and Jets, whom they have defeated in the last three weeks. If Maye can continue to be efficient and make plays, then the Pats could be the spoilers over the final eight weeks.

Maye and New England will host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, where DraftKings Sports Betting has the Pats as +195 home underdogs.

Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

Week 10 stats: 22 of 30 (73.3%) for 215 yards 2 TD 0 INT, 3 carries for -5 yards

Statistics for 10 weeks: 206 for 324 (63.6%) for 1,968 yards 10 TD 6 INT, 61 carries for 290 yards 4 TD

Why is it number 3?

Mainly because he and the Broncos couldn’t finish the upset win over the Chiefs. Nix undoubtedly had the best performance of any rookie quarterback, helping Denver build a 14-3 first-half lead at Arrowhead Stadium.

However, Nix and the Broncos were unable to score any points in the second half of Kansas City’s 16-14 victory, which extended their winning streak to 15 games dating to last season. But he put his team in position to win the game by leading Denver 43 yards in 11 plays to set up Will Lutz’s 35-yard field goal, which was ultimately blocked.

For the record, Nix would have jumped to second place on this list if the Broncos ultimately ended up beating the Chiefs.

Denver remains in the seventh and final playoff spot in the AFC, despite its two-game losing streak that left it 5-5. But the Broncos have just one more tough test in this tough three-game stretch (they host Atlanta on Sunday) and their schedule becomes more favorable over the next three weeks before closing out with the Chargers, Bengals and Chiefs.

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Week 10 stats: 16 of 30 (53.3%) for 120 yards 0 TD 0 INT, 2 carries for 15 yards

Statistics for 10 weeks: 178 of 294 (60.5%) for 1,785 yards 9 TD 5 INT, 40 carries for 236 yards

Why is it number 4?

Better days are ahead for the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft, but he’s really struggled over the past three weeks. Of course, facing the Commanders, Cardinals and Patriots is a difficult and sneaky stretch, especially for a rookie quarterback.

But the Bears thought they had built an excellent team around Williams, especially during their 4-2 start, where they were squarely in a playoff spot. Williams put Chicago in position to beat Washington, but he’s been under siege over the past two weeks, having been sacked 15 times in that span.

Defenses have responsibly edged Williams for most of the season, which is why he leads the NFL in sacks (38) this season. Williams was a wizard at extending plays in college, but found the practice much harder to come by in the pros.

Still, Chicago is in the thick of the NFC playoff race, even though it is two games behind its rival Packers for the final playoff spot. But Sunday was supposed to be the easy win left on Chicago’s schedule, as it plays the Packers, Lions and Vikings twice each and the Seahawks and 49ers, which is the toughest stretch for any team. remaining according to Tankathon.

The Bears will host the Packers in a crucial NFC North matchup on Sunday, where BetMGM Sports Betting has Chicago almost as the underdog at home.

Michael Penix Jr, Atlanta Falcons

Week 10 stats: N/A

Statistics for 10 weeks: 1 of 1 (100%) for 14 yards 0 TD 0 INT.

Why is it number 5?

Penix remained on the sidelines despite Atlanta’s surprising 20-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. He has still thrown just one pass, a completion against the Seattle Seahawks, but remains the backup behind Kirk Cousins.

The Falcons were not penalized for their surprising division loss, as the team chasing them, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, also lost on Sunday. So if the Falcons clinch the NFC South, or more accurately when, the Falcons will be primed for more snaps, and maybe even a start, potentially in Week 18.

If Cousins is injured, Penix will become an integral member of Atlanta’s roster as they are the only quarterbacks on Atlanta’s active roster.

Penix and the Falcons will head west to Denver for a date with Nix and the Broncos on Sunday. BetRivers sports betting has Atlanta at +1.5 in the differential against Denver.

Spencer Rattler, New Orleans Saints

Week 10 stats: N/A

Statistics for 10 weeks: 59 of 99 (59.6%) for 571 yards 1 TD 2 INT, 9 carries for 61 yards

Why is it number 6?

Rattler was once again inactive for the Saints, serving as the emergency third quarterback for New Orleans, although he was more accurately the fourth quarterback behind Derek Carr, Jake Haener and Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill. Carr threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns in New Orleans’ upset victory over Atlanta.

With Carr back healthy and Haener overtaking Rattler as the No. 2 QB – and again, the possibility of Hill also taking over in a pinch – we may not see Rattler on the sidelines for the rest of the season. If we do, we will adjust this list accordingly.

The Saints will host the Browns on Sunday, where bet365 sports betting it puts the confrontation almost in an election.
