COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. (KPTV) – The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after a man was found dead near Ariel Monday morning.

Shortly after 8 a.m., a 911 caller reported finding an unconscious man near mile marker 42 of SR-503. A Washington State Patrol trooper was the first to arrive on the scene and found a man dead on a nearby logging road.

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives were called to the investigation due to suspicious circumstances.

The coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as identify the man.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.
