Michael Madigan trial: Defense to begin cross-examination in trial of former Illinois House speaker

Video recordings between Mike McClain and Fidel Marquez were shown to the jury on Wednesday.

In the videos, they discussed ComEd renewing Doherty’s contract and how to justify the amounts to new CEO Joe Dominguez.

An email from Marquez to other ComEd staff was shown.

It said: “We are changing some of the hired personnel.”

Marquez was asked if he had assigned additional duties to Ed Moody.

He said, “No, because they hired Ed Moody as a favor to Michael Madigan. I had no expectation that Ed Moody would do any work for ComEd.”

Around the same time, they were expecting a vote on the FEJA bill.

A consulting contract shown indicated Doherty would be paid $32,500 a month.

Márquez also talked about how difficult it was to work with Eddie Acevedo.

He said he told McClain that Acevedo would have to change his behavior to be hired as a lobbyist.

Acevedo was hired and paid $5,000 a month.

“He did little to no work,” Marquez said.

Márquez spoke about the hiring of Mike Zalewski, who did not work.

Recordings of his hiring were played in court.
