After alarming survey results showed that many 10th grade girls in Wayne County struggle with feelings of disconnection and mental health issues, the Empower ME 2024 conference was launched to provide essential resources.

Held in October, the event brought together 170 girls for a day of interactive sessions focusing on wellbeing, self-esteem and positive choices. Led by Jill Harper and the Wayne County Community Schools Optimal Health team, the initiative featured 20 community agencies leading mindfulness, nutrition, self-affirmation and mental health exercises.

“Our goal is to show these young women that they are valuable and supported,” Harper said. With plans already underway for Empower ME 2025, the event aims to continue laying the foundation for a healthier and more empowered generation.
