What did Boomer Esiason say about Aaron Rodgers? Radio host claims Jets QB has ‘sucked the air’ out of New York

It’s safe to say that Boomer Esiason is not a fan of how Aaron Rodgers has impacted the Jets locker room.

The former CBS analyst and current New York radio host has been critical of the Jets quarterback throughout the 2024 season. First, he called out Rodgers for his relationship with former head coach Robert Salehwho was fired after five weeks. Then, he criticized the QB after he called out former Jets wide receiver Mike Williams in a post-match press conference.

Now, with the Jets coming off an embarrassing road loss to the Cardinals, Esiason once again faces off against Rodgers.

New York is currently 3-7, and there isn’t much more the Jets can do for the veteran QB. The team already fired the head coach and landed Rodgers’ former teammate Davante Adams at the deadline. It sure feels like rock bottom for the organization (again), and Esiason is pointing the finger at Rodgers.

Here is more information about what he said.

What did Boomer Esiason say about Aaron Rodgers?

Esiason spoke about the Jets quarterback during his recent appearance on WFAN, a New York radio station. The former NFL quarterback said the soon-to-be 41-year-old is “differing” too much in the locker room, and his decline in the game is hurting the team.

“I hate to say it’s like Aaron Rodgers completely sucked the air out of the building,” Esiason said. “And I think a lot of guys are considering who he is in their minds. In their minds and mine, he’s a first-choice Hall of Fame player; one of the great quarterbacks when he was in his prime. we have ever seen.

“Very few people throw the ball like him. And I used to say that Dan Marino, Joe Namath and Aaron Rodgers threw the ball significantly differently than everyone else, like we’d never seen anything like that. And I’ll go to my “I still think those three “The players were so special when they threw the ball, and the way they looked at throwing the ball was so natural and amazing.”

Rodgers certainly has the resume to back up being the star of the show. He is a Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP and four-time NFL MVP. However, it is clear that his best moment is behind him. Not only is Rodgers the oldest player in the league, but he is coming off a torn Achilles tendon, an injury that is not easy to recover from, especially considering his age.

Esiason pointed out the fact that Mike Williams, who was traded to the Steelers at the deadline, seemed much happier in his only game with Pittsburgh than he did all season with New York, and that was a perfect summary of what Rodgers has made for the Jets locker room.

“Since he came here the last two years, I feel like every player on this team has left everything in his hands,” Esiason said. “And the reason I say that is because Russell Wilson said something about Mike Williams yesterday. And it was reported during the game that when Mike Williams showed up in Pittsburgh, he showed up with a big smile, and he was very happy. He was so unencumbered. playing for the Jets, with the Jets, for Aaron Rodgers, who makes the game-winning touchdown catch over his left shoulder in a surprising sequence of events.

“Because the reason he’s on the field is because the guy who would have been on the field got hurt on the previous play, and that’s the only reason he’s there. And Russell Wilson has the confidence to throw him the ball. . and it was a game-winning touchdown pass. What Russell was talking about, Mike Williams, basically, gives you a real perspective of what’s going on in that Jets locker room.”

With seven games left on the schedule, the season isn’t over yet for the Jets. However, it will take a huge change from the entire team, not just Rodgers, to stay in the playoff hunt.
