“I can only control what my truth is”

Jordanian chillies remains optimistic that she will eventually be declared the bronze medalist in the women’s floor exercise final in Paris 2024.

Speaking on NBC’s TODAY Show on Monday (November 11), USA. artistic gymnast he addressed her appeal in progress against a Decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) causing her to drop from third to fifth place in the final rankings, saying, “I can only control what my truth is, and I know what the truth is, and I know we were right in everything we were doing.”

Chiles received a score of 13.666 for her routine at the Bercy Arena, but her coaches presented a judges’ inquiry into her score, which was subsequently increased to 13.733, placing her in third place ahead of the Romanian. Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea.

However, subsequent appeals filed by the Romanian team resulted in the CAS concluding that Chiles’ investigation had been submitted four seconds late. Barbosu was received his bronze medal at a separate ceremony in Romania, while Chiles said he still has the one he was originally given at the victory ceremony in Paris.

In September, Chiles and the US team appealed the CAS ruling to the Swiss Federal Supreme Courtthe only body capable of reviewing CAS decisions for restricted procedural reasons.

“I can’t control anything that’s happening outside,” Chiles said on the TODAY Show about the ongoing process, his first television interview on the topic.

“Everything was on time, and for them to come back and say it was four seconds late, when we had evidence, we had everything that can really prove that everything was fine.”

That is one of the reasons Chiles is appealing the CAS decision, as his legal team believes the CAS did not properly consider video evidence that supposedly shows Chiles’ investigation was filed on time. The other is related to an alleged conflict of interest maintained by the president of the CAS panel that hears his case. The CAS did not comment on the appeal to the Swiss federal court.

Chiles added Monday: “I’ll be able to get through this and I’ll be able to look back and say, you know what? That was just part of my story.”

“That’s why I’m here today, to speak my truth and tell everyone around me that everything I did was right.

“Those 13,766 were given to me, that bronze medal was given to me, in the right way.”

The original result of the day provided one of the images of the Olympic Games, with Chiles posing on a gymnastics podium with three black athletestogether with the Brazilian Rebecca Andrade taking gold and her USA teammate. Simone Biles silver.
