Crash on Cipularang toll road kills one person – Archipelago

Police continue to update the number of victims in a multiple accident that occurred on Monday on the Cipularang Toll Road in Purwakarta, West Java, involving 17 vehicles.

As of Tuesday morning, the total number of victims reached 30, of whom 25 were slightly injured, four seriously injured and one fatality, tribunnews.com reported on Tuesday.

All victims are currently being treated at Abdul Rojak Hospital in Purwakarta.

West Java police said the crash was caused by a heavily loaded truck that suffered brake failure.

Video clips circulating on social media showed the truck traveling in the right lane at high speed and unable to stop. The truck, which was transporting cardboard, collided with stopped vehicles.

The accident occurred at kilometer 92.2 in the direction of Jakarta around 3:30 p.m.

“The brakes failed due to the heavy load, causing the truck to collide with the vehicles in front,” said West Java police chief spokesperson Mr. Comr. said Jules Abraham Abast in Bandung, quoted by Antara news agency.

Jules added that around 10 people were deployed to handle the situation, including police officers from the National Police Traffic Police Corps, the West Java Police Highway Patrol and the Police Traffic Police Unit. from Purwakarta.

Meanwhile, state accident insurance company PT Jasa Raharja guaranteed that compensation would be paid to victims.

“The family of the deceased victim will receive 50 million rupees (US$3,180) in compensation, while the injured victims are entitled to a maximum of 20 million rupees towards medical treatment costs, paid directly to the hospitals treating them. “Jasa Raharja President Director Rivan A. Purwantono said in a written statement on Monday, quoted by kumparan.com.

Following the incident, Jasa Raharja coordinated with local police and hospitals to process compensation claims.

Separately, the Ministry of Transportation said in a statement on Monday that it will investigate the cause of the accident.

The ministry’s General Directorate of Land Transportation sent a team to the accident site to coordinate with all stakeholders to manage the accident and collect data.
