The crash occurred near the corner of Airport and Center Roads in Everett around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

Police said they still don’t know who was driving the car when this happened. Investigators returned to the area on Monday, checking with nearby businesses for surveillance videos and possible witnesses. Still, state laws restrict their ability to question detained minors.

Keiffer Meyers said his older brother, Jonathan Anderson, 39, was in this area when a car jumped the curb, crashed into a nearby fence and struck five people. According to family members, Anderson and his girlfriend were among the three dead.

“They took a real angel from our family, so it’s just hard,” Meyers said. “He really was a good person and he was full of love and he was also a very strong person.”

Everett police said the area has a transient population and the victims were sleeping on the grass near the sidewalk when they were hit. Meyers said his family didn’t find out his brother had been living on the streets until this happened.

“He was very good at hiding it and very good at not trying to worry anyone,” Meyers said. “We knew something was going on and we didn’t know what it was, but we had no idea it was like this.”

“That’s what sucks about this. He supported me so much that I wish he could have supported me,” Meyers added. Everett police said the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop the suspect car for a traffic stop before the crash, but the driver fled and was not pursued.

They believe that at the time of the accident there were between three and four people in the car, who got out and fled. Three youths were detained, but police said state laws requiring minors to have access to a lawyer before being questioned restricted investigators’ ability to speak with the children, and they were later released to their families.

Meyers said right now he just wants the parents of the children believed to be involved to pay for his brother’s burial costs.

“Your children took my older brother away and you should pay for their mistakes,” he said. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the names of the other people who died in this incident.
