The conference fined two SEC schools after incidents over the weekend.

The SEC announced on monday that LSU will pay a $250,000 fine “for the interruption of its contest against Alabama when fans threw debris onto the field” in a loss to Alabama on Saturday.

While LSU’s fine came because of a moment of frustration for fans, Ole Miss will pay a fine for what its fans did in a moment of celebration. The school incurred a $250,000 fine because its fans stormed the field and will pay an additional $100,000 fine because its fans entered the field before the end of the game.

The Rebels defeated Georgia 28-10.

During the Tigers’ 42-13 loss to Alabama, their fans reacted by throwing trash onto the field when the referees did not call what they believed was a mask call.

While that decision turned out to be inconsequential for a game that was already out of control, it ended up leaving LSU with a huge fine to pay. In addition to the fine, fans who participated in the litter pick-up could face punishment.

According to the SECONDLSU must do the following:

  • “You will be required to use all available resources, including security, stadium and television videos, to identify individuals who threw objects onto the field of play or at the opposing team. All individuals identified as being involved in the interruption of play attend LSU sporting events for the remainder of the 2024-25 academic and athletic year;”
  • “Review and update the Department of Athletics’ game management procedures and alcohol availability policies to prevent a repeat of Saturday night’s disruption, which will include an evaluation of the SEC’s agreed upon policies on sportsmanship, management of gaming and alcohol to verify full compliance with existing standards, and”
  • “After completing this review, the University will provide a report to the Conference Office to summarize its efforts to identify and penalize violators and its plan to enact policies to prevent future similar incidents while ensuring compliance with Conference standards “.

The conference said it will not suspend alcohol sales privileges at LSU but “reserves the right to do so if other requirements outlined above are not met.”

Ole Miss’ $350,000 fine comes because it is the school’s second violation of conference policies on trespassing on the field. Their first offense came last year when the Rebels beat LSU. Ole Miss would have gotten away with just a $250,000 fine if it hadn’t been for fans storming the field 16 seconds earlier.

Ole Miss’ win was huge, as it kept Rebels College Football Playoff hopes alive despite having losses to Kentucky and LSU under its belt. Ole Miss now has a win over one of the SEC’s top teams and could be considered for the CFP if it takes care of business against Florida and Mississippi State to close out the year.
