E. coli cases linked to McDonald’s onions rise to 11 in one county after new case found

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (KKCO/Gray News) – Another person in Mesa County, Colorado has been affected by McDonald’s onions.

Mesa County Public Health reported one additional case of E. coli in Mesa County. There have been a total of 11 local cases, including one death, in the county.

Officials say the risk to the public is low.

“Due to the quick actions of our agency, the risk to the community at this time is considered low. We are awaiting additional state testing to see if other E. coli cases are related to the outbreak,” said Kathleen Satterfield, MCPH supervisory epidemiologist.

The E. coli outbreak was announced in late October. It is related to the chopped onions served in McDonald’s Quarter Pounders.

“Our agency has mobilized and trained several members of our team to provide support to community members who have questions or concerns,” Satterfield said.
