RICHFORD, Wis. (WBAY) – The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team is investigating a crash over the weekend in which a car fell into a river.

The 911 center was notified shortly before 5:30 a.m. Saturday about a crash on 11th Rd. between Cypress Rd. and County Highway JJ in Richford.

Rescuers found a car submerged in the Mecan River.

The Waupaca Fire Department dive team responded, along with Waushara County Fire and EMS.

They found one person inside the car and attempted life-saving measures at the scene.

The person died at the hospital from injuries from the crash, the sheriff’s office says. His name will be withheld until next of kin are notified.
