Brad Pitt has just achieved an important victory in his current legal battle with ex wife Angelina Jolie about the French winery Miraval Castle.

In new court documents filed on Friday, Nov. 8 and obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, Nov. 11, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lia Martin dismissed three objections, also known as motions to dismiss, recently filed by the legal team of Jolie in relation to Pitt’s own claims in court that Jolie violated a verbal and written agreement not to sell her stakes in Miraval without the permission of both parties.

The ruling was made in response to Jolie’s requests to dismiss three separate causes of action that Pitt raised in a complaint filed in the case in April, in which Pitt’s attorneys claimed that the former couple’s companies, Mongo Bongo and Nouvel, “entered into a written agreement in 2013 to give each other a right of first refusal over any sale of their respective interests in Miraval” and that the written agreement “prevented Mondo Bongo and Nouvel from selling their interests without the consent of another person.”

This written agreement between the two companies, Pitt’s lawyers claimed in the April lawsuit, related to any sale of Miraval existed in addition to a verbal agreement between Jolie and Pitt to obtain the other’s consent before selling their interests in the winery. Under the Nov. 8 ruling, Jolie has 30 days to respond.

“This is a clear victory for Brad that demonstrates the legitimacy of his claims and demonstrates once again that the other side’s narrative is not backed up with substance,” a source close to Pitt tells PEOPLE.

Pitt, 60, originally he sued jolie49, for selling his stake at Château Miraval to a third party, Tenute del Mondo, the Stoli Group’s wine division, in 2022. The legal battle has at times overlapped with a separate conflict regarding the custody of their children, half of whom have already reached the age of majority: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.

Jolie and Pitt began dating in the mid-2000s, after meeting on the set of their 2005 film. Mr. and Mrs. Smith and got married in August. 23, 2014. Jolie filed for divorce on September 20, 2016.

In August, a source told PEOPLE that Jolie is “actively moving beyond the past” days after his legal battle ended against the Department of Justice and the FBI for documents related to the alleged 2016 plane incident between her and Pitt.

“Being stuck in the past is not something Angie wants,” the source added at the time. “He wants to focus on his family, his job and his future. “These are all things that make her happy.”
