Cowboys fall to Eagles: score-by-score recap, highlights

play

ARLINGTON—The dallas cowboys They entered Week 10 shorthanded and left with an ugly loss to a hated rival.

The Cowboys were able to force two Philadelphia Eagles fumbles in the first half, but the offense was unable to capitalize on the mistakes and only managed six points and 104 yards of total offense. Dallas had eight first downs in total and Rush had trouble passing the ball, throwing for a pedestrian 36 yards on 8 of 17 passing.

Things didn’t get much better in the second half. What was a manageable 14-6 deficit eventually grew to 34-6, and the Eagles brought in substitutes for a portion of the fourth quarter.

The numbers were ugly: 24 first downs by Philadelphia to 11 by Dallas; six scoring units for Philadelphia, six points for Dallas; 6.0 yards per pass for Philadelphia and 1.5 yards per pass for Dallas. Trey Lance relieved Cooper Rush, but had almost as many rushing yards (17) as passing yards (21) on six throws. He was also fired twice.

The Eagles scored two touchdowns in the first half, the first of which came on a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Jalen Hurts, and the second of which was a 14-yard pass to tight end Dallas Goedert in the final seconds.

Dallas’ fourth straight loss drops the Cowboys to 3-6 heading into Monday Night Football’s game against the Houston Texans. The Eagles (7-2) have a short week to prepare for the Washington Commanders on Thursday.

Cowboys vs Eagles Updates

A punt gives the ball back to the Eagles with just over five minutes left. They get some first downs and opt for a fourth-and-short with less than 2 minutes left, rather than giving the ball back to the Cowboys. The Eagles convert and Pickett kneels out of the clock at the Dallas 36-yard line.

After scoring three points on their next drive, a Jake Ferguson fumble gave the Eagles the ball back into Dallas territory and a chance to score once again. With backup quarterback Kenny Pickett and the rest of the reserves, the Eagles hit another field goal to increase their lead to 34-6.

With the game seemingly under control, the Eagles added another three points, this time from 39 yards out, to extend the lead to 31-6.

Dallas has not been able to keep the game close and the Eagles have almost put it out of reach with their second touchdown of the third quarter. A seven-play, 83-yard drive, capped by an eight-yard touchdown run by Hurts to push their lead to 28-6.

Both teams traded three-pointers to open the second half, but on the Eagles’ second possession, they were able to score seven points after a seven-play, 37-yard drive, this time with a four-yard touchdown pass to Johnny. Wilson. The Eagles take the lead to 21-6.

With 1:43 left in the half and 69 yards to go, the Eagles orchestrated a touchdown drive that ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to Dallas Goedert, giving Philadelphia a 14-6 lead.

After an Ezekiel Elliott fumble inside the Eagles’ 5-yard line, Hurts returns the favor, aided by a sack by Micah Parsons. The Cowboys started the possession at the Eagles’ 6-yard line, but could only come away with three points, cutting the lead to 7-6 at the end of the half.

After a KaVontae Turpin kick return brought Dallas to the Cowboys’ 40-yard line, the offense responded with a nine-play, 32-yard drive capped by Brandon Aubrey’s 46-yard field goal to adjust the lead to 7-3.

After exchanging consecutive punts from both offenses, Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush fumbles, putting the Eagles at the Dallas 17-yard line. Philadelphia converts a third down that takes them to the 1-yard line before Jalen Hurts drives in to score, 7-0.

ESPN: The overwhelming consensus among ESPN experts is that the Falcons will take home the win in Week 9. Eleven panelists, eleven Philadelphia picks.

USA TODAY: Three USA TODAY writers back the Eagles, all by double digits. Richard Morin, the only person who opted for Dallas, didn’t exactly give a compelling reason: “No one expects the Cowboys to win, and that’s exactly why they will win. Dallas is always dangerous at home. I think Micah Parsons has an outstanding performance. “

Tony Catalina, American statesman from Austin: The 2024 version of dallas cowboys It has been such a disconcerting year in recent memory. A matchup that normally produces fireworks has seemingly lost its steam with the loss of Dak Prescott. Dallas doesn’t have enough to make it today against an Eagles team that is finding its form. Eagles 31, Cowboys 13.

Cedric Golden, American statesman from Austin: Dallas has too many injuries to its key personnel to be able to contend with the Eagles and Saquon Barkley, one of several running backs Dallas could have signed in the offseason. Eagles 34, Cowboys 20
