Ong Ye Kung on the regulation of telemedicine providers

The regulation of telemedicine is no different from that of all other economic activities: standards are established, licenses are required, regular audits are carried out for each clinic, complaints are investigated, and violators are punished. Such regulatory frameworks cannot eradicate offenders, but they ensure that where practices have gone astray, especially with the advent of new technologies and business models, they can be corrected promptly. And this is exactly what happened in the MaNaDr case, where its doctors issued medical certificates without complying with regulations. Several doctors also appeared to have breached Singapore Medical Council guidelines and were referred to the council for further disciplinary action. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung gave this update in response to questions from MPs in Parliament on Monday (Nov 11).
